A stay at the luxurious Portuguese hotel –The Oitavos – is not only enjoyed by golfing fans all year round. It is also a popular destination for horse riding enthusiasts and those who want to experience 5-star service and scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The history of the hotel began as early as 1922, when Carlos Montez Champalimaud purchased the land of Quinta da Marinha. In 2001, the famous Oitavos Dunes golf course was built on it, under the direction of American architect, Arthur Hills. Carlos' grandson, Miguel Montez Champalimaud, had a hotel built nearby, which welcomed its first guests in 2010.
New Look
Four years ago, The Oitavos hotel underwent a complete exterior and interior renovation, with respect for local materials. Guests may stay in one of 14 bedrooms or 126 lofts in the Superior and Premium categories. Each room has its own balcony facing either East or the sunset. And we confirm that the sunset as seen from the room is amazing. Two apartments and one private villa are also available. Premium services including 24/7 room service and babysitting are a matter of course.
Activity and Stillness
The aforementioned Oitavos Dunes golf course was ranked among the 100 best courses in the world by GOLF magazine and is the first European course to be awarded the Gold Signature Sanctuary award. Other popular local courses are Quinta da Marinha and the famous Penha Longa, 30 minutes away by car. 'In addition to golf, our guests, like me, are sure to enjoy horse riding, surfing, cycling and other sports. I can also recommend a trip to the mountain town of Sintra or the fishing town of Cascais,' Miguel, Director and owner of the hotel, describes his favourite activities. In the local spa, guests can relax after an active day with a massage or skin treatment or in the meditation room. Chef Cyril Delliviers and his team take care of guests' tastebuds in the Ipsylon Restaurant & Bar, and in the Terraço and Verbasco restaurants.
Many tourists choose the southwest coast, but we swear by the east coast. We are golfers and this is where the best golf courses are located. In addition, we discovered a magical resort near one of the most beautiful courses, Ile aux Cerfs.
Nature in its purest form, these are the Jizera Mountains, which are among the most unspoilt in our country. A place of rest and a base for adventurous expeditions in the mountain landscape are to be found in their midst. Welcome to Královka!
