Just 70 kilometres south of Salzburg, between the High and Low Tauern mountains, is the attractive Grossarltal valley. Above the Großarl resort stretch mountain slopes with 2 000-metre peaks, which are part of the Großarltal-Dorfgastein Ski Swing.

This Salzburg ski area remains somewhat in the shadow of better-known and often overcrowded resorts such as Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn or the Gastein Valley. However, it cannot be underestimated. Having the entire slope in front of you, all to yourself, even at eleven in the morning is a common experience.

Großarltal-Dorfgastein Ski Swing
The Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski area, which is part of Austria’s largest ski paradise – Ski Amadé – has the form of a ski swing. Its centre is a ridge formed by the Kreuzkogel and Fulseck peaks. There are many pistes, mostly red and blue, on both sides of the ridge with a panoramic view. These are often wide and head north-eastwards into the Grossarltal valley and, on the other side, westwards towards Dorfgastein. A total of 70 kilometres of pistes are complemented by extensive open freeride terrain. Two cablecars head up from the Grossarl valley – the Panoramabahn and the new Kieserlbahn. The new 10-seater Kieserlbahn cabin enables a connection to the neighbouring Dorgastein area via the Kieserl peak platform (1 954 metres). At the same time, the new Roslehenalm red slope and the new modern double-storey  WOLKE7 restaurant with a panoramic terrace were added right at the top station of the cableway.

Fischbacher for Children and Beginners
The Fischbacher experiential meadow with free entry is situated on the edge of the resort. This huge winter playground with poma lift and conveyor belt makes it easier for children – and not only for children – to take their first steps on skis. Of course, it is also ideal for all those who simply want to have fun riding a snow sledge or bobsleigh. There is a Funslope with a snow tunnel, a wave track and a Funpark, and for the youngest ones, “Hollywald” with well-known characters from the world of comics hiding along the forest path waiting to be discovered.

How far is it?
Grossarl is 450 kilometres from Prague, the distance from Brno is just over 500 km.
