The charming streets of the Old Town conceal many cosy pubs. In Maisel Street, their selection is enriched by one completely unique enterprise. It’s called W Restaurant and it combines a restaurant, a bar and one of the widest Whiskey collections in the world. We asked Marek Jablonský, the owner of the restaurant, and Justýna Vašková, who is in charge of the restaurant’s clientele and organisation of company events, to explain the interesting concept.
What makes Whiskey magical for you? Marek Jablonský: Its timelessness and huge range of tastes. In addition, Whiskey today is especially associated with evenings filled with conversation with friends or quiet contemplation in a warm atmosphere, with good music and company. Whiskey has gained a lot of popularity in the world in recent decades. This is due not only to the strict rules for its production, but also to the variety of flavours and origins.
At W Restaurant, you offer a truly global Whiskey show. But what if someone comes to your restaurant who would be pleased with another tasty drink. What would you treat him to?
Justýna Vašková: In addition to Whiskey, you will find a wide variety of wines in our restaurant. Especially worth mentioning are the Israeli ones, whose range distinguishes us from other restaurants in Prague. My favourite wines include in particular a red, like Yarden Rom, which perfectly complements our steaks. Further, we also offer cocktails, not only of Whiskey, but also on the basis of, for example, Gin or Vodka.
What inspired you to open a restaurant with one of the largest collections of Whiskey in Europe?
Marek Jablonský: The concept was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, where, about 7 years ago, our business friends opened the first restaurant of this kind. It is very well established, not only as a restaurant and Whiskey Bar, but especially as a favourite meeting place for business friends and significant personalities. We wanted to bring this success to Prague too. Thanks to its Jewish legacy, among other things, the city is a very popular destination for Israelis.
What type of cuisine lures interested guests?
Marek Jablonský: W Restaurant & Whiskey Bar is specialised in Mediterranean cuisine inspired by Israel. In our enterprise you will find some of the best steaks in Prague, not only thanks to quality beef from Argentina and the United States, as well as from the Czech Republic, but also thanks to the special procedure of preparation in a wood coal grill. In addition to appetisers and fish, the menu is completed with delicious vegetarian specialities and desserts according to original recipes from Tel Aviv.
Why did you specifically choose Maisel Street for the location of W Restaurant?
Marek Jablonskis: One of the conditions for opening the restaurant in Prague was arched cellar premises, whose club atmosphere would conveniently complete the Whiskey ambiance. Moreover, the Maisel Street cellars were appealing to us by their symbolic location near the entry to the Jewish town and by the unusual layout. Nowhere else in Prague will you find a V-shaped bar, which is an original central point of the interior.
W Restaurant is indeed cosy and unusually stylish. Is it possible to rent the whole restaurant?
Justýna Vašková: Sure. W Restaurant’s premises are in fact suitable for all types of events. We primarily focus on company events, for which the entire restaurant with a seating capacity of up to 130 guests can be available. Due to its location, W Restaurant is also suitable for holding wedding receptions. We also have two private lounges. Each of them offers 20 seats, which is very pleasant for smaller family celebrations, or for meetings requiring more privacy and quiet.
Perhaps each of us is affected by the captivating pre-Christmas atmosphere, candlelit Advent evenings, the aroma of sweets, mulled wine, potpourri, fragrant frankincense and the beauty of glittering decorations on the Christmas tree. Every year, adults and children alike eagerly await the arrival of Infant Jesus and experience the joy of gifts. And it is no different in Karlovy Vary…
The mountainous region of South Tyrol is endowed with extraordinary natural beauty. Despite the harsh climate, local residents literally fell in love with it. Proof of this is the exclusive estate of Ansitz Steinbock. It provides a beautiful view of the surroundings, a warm atmosphere filled with the friendliness of the owner, Elisabeth Rabensteiner, as well as cuisine renowned throughout the region.
Sweet and salt have always gone well together. The taste of salty spring water and sweet crispy wafers has become synonymous with Karlovy Vary. In many ways, life in the famous spa town can be likened to these opposites. Accept the salty-sweet invitation to a walk through the town, which since 2021 has been proud to be registered on the prestigious UNESCO list.
